What is the difference between paying in instalments and subscribing?

Paying in installments is a payment option that may be available for the outright purchase of a device. When you purchase a device, it belongs to you. The device is covered by security patches, software upgrades and manufacturer’s warranty as described on the device’s page on the HMD site, but it is not eligible for the benefits included in a subscription – for example, fast replacements if it is accidentally damaged, lost or stolen.

A subscription device does not technically belong to you, but you can enjoy it as much as you want – and we kindly ask you to take care of our device as if it were your own. In a subscription, you pay a monthly fee to use the device. After the 90-day contract period, you have the option of changing the device model for a fee. You can donate credits to environmental causes every 6 months that your subscription is active. You can cancel your subscription at any time and return the device. There is no fee for canceling after the 90-day contract period.
