Great news! HMD secures third year of Platinum EcoVadis 2024 Sustainability Rating

Platinum EcoVadis 2024: Good things come in threes

We did it again. For the third year in a row, HMD has secured the EcoVadis Platinum rating through our commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Over the years, our sustainability journey has progressed at incredible speed. Back in 2020, EcoVadis awarded us with Silver status, placing us in the top 15% of global businesses. The following year, we traded Silver for Gold, which placed us in the top 5%. But it wasn’t until 2022 that we achieved Platinum – the very best of EcoVadis ratings.

Since 2022, we’ve consistently remained in the top 1% of businesses and 99th percentile of companies evaluated for their commitment to sustainable and ethical practices. While it may be the third time we’ve secured a Platinum rating, we are as proud now as we were the very first time.

What does the EcoVadis Platinum award actually mean?

EcoVadis, a trusted global provider of business sustainability ratings, evaluates companies based on four sustainability themes: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. Achieving a Platinum rating means that HMD excels in these areas. Not only does it solidify our dedication to sustainable practices, ethical business conduct, and social responsibility, it also means we’re setting the bar in the mobile tech industry and showing that having core values – and sticking by them – matters.

From the beginning, our mission has always been to connect the world through smart, stylish mobile devices that stand the test of time. That’s why our products are built to be reliable, affordable, and recyclable. Sustainability is not just important to us; it’s at the heart of who we are, and always will be.

What’s next for HMD?

Our goal is to retain our Platinum status for 2025. As you already know, we’re all about creating long-lasting products with the planet in mind – and your bank account – so we’re constantly innovating to find more sustainable ways of offering you even greater services and products. Take our repairable phones, like HMD Skyline and HMD Pulse Pro, for instance: because you can fix them at home, they last longer. And when you don’t have to replace the whole phone as often, that in turn reduces CO2 emissions and the generation of electronic waste.

But it’s not just about what we’ve done, it’s about looking ahead. That’s why we’ve set out some very important goals that take into consideration EcoVadis’ key sustainability pillars:

• Environment: By 2030, we aim to reduce our CO2 emissions by 42%, following our clear road map to get us there. And looking at the bigger picture, we’re working towards reaching net zero by 2050.

• People: We’ll continue to uphold the highest standards as employers, prioritising the health and safety of our team while nurturing an inclusive, equal-opportunity work environment. As a global company, we take pride in bringing together individuals from all walks of life and will keep placing diversity at the heart of our team’s identity.

• Positive Practices: We’ll keep working closely with our partners to ensure that sustainable choices are made throughout the supply chain, staying aligned with global standards and reporting frameworks. From research and design to production and marketing, we’ll continue to integrate our sustainability goals across all areas of the business, producing high-quality, long-lasting products for our customers to enjoy.

The Platinum rating is a milestone. We’re not done yet.

Sustainability is part of who we are as a company, right down to the awesome individuals who make up our teams. That’s why we’re going to stay the course when it comes to making products with both people and the planet in mind. Innovation will remain the key to that, as well as collaborations with our sustainability partners.
